When it was charged, I loaded a lot of my favorite songs on it via my computer USB cable then hooked it to a set of speakers I had on hand with the cord supplied. I let it play for several hours and it worked great. This was without any power to the unit , so it ran well on its own charge. even though UI installed a lot of songs there is still a lot of room available, so may be I will try to load some pictures on it next.
Had a very difficult time finding a good MP3 player! Seems like everyone is streaming... Where do they get all that data?!? Anyway, I'd had a ZEN MP3 player before... Well, still do but I wanted another one. I purchased two other horrible brands... Can't recall the name. I'll edit if I can find it. They were terrible! Music wouldn't play, the menu was atrocious to navigate. So the hunt continued. I stumbled on this and am very pleased. I loaded 151 songs last night with no issues. Everything plays well and sounds good.
My third will arrive tomorrow. One I gave a friend, another i gave up, but it was stolen, and now i once again for myself. It uses the .M3U playlist format, which will work with the built-in MP3 loaded MP3. These are cheap enough, as long as someone can afford a person to a nursing home. Some of the people you think are completely "out of it" have responded positively to their youthful music. Get some research on the recipients you want and find out what kind of music they like when they are young. You can find any imaginable music on Youtube and download it. You may be surprised when you put these things on the side of the time, so you feel how good, and sometimes even a few years did not listen to music on the face of people.
The menu is not easy to navigate. It allows to play, repeat all, repeat songs and reshuffle. Needless to say, I put it at work at 8 o'clock in the 5 battery still showing complete! great! I am very happy.
It took a while to figure out the controls, as the instruction manual is not the best, but I must say after owning this device for a while, may be the best bargain on the planet. It has great battery life, just about every control you could ask for, and is very inexpensive compared to the competition. On top of that, it seems to be well built despite my initial impressions.
I do not recommend trying this, but It fell out of my pocket about a week ago into the deep end of a pool. After fishing it out by sliding it to the shallow end with a pole, I pulled it out figuring it was done for. Here is where I will give a little advice. If you drop it in water, fish it out and turn it off as quickly as possible. put it on its side and let it dry in the sun (sd card slot up)for 24 hours, Then turn it over on the other side and let it dry for 24 hours on the other side. After the 48 hours drying time, turn it on. If the screen flashes on and off, do not give up. recharge the battery and see if the behavior gets better. Mine did, but it took about four tries before the behavior was back to normal. Anecdotal evidence, but that is what worked for me.
Added 8 gb of music and started listening to old songs! Laundry work great! Players work perfectly. The only problem I encountered was the first time I tried to connect to the computer, and the device was not reconfigured after the connection. This may be the problem with the player, the cable my computer or I might just not plug the cable, so it's not connected. This is a very small problem, because all the work of this player is great! My biggest problem is trying to find more music, even close to half the way to fill the available memory. Players are easy to load. Like your player, i really like.

I'm an old guy with an out-of-the-ordinary use for something like this: I like to listen to old 1930s-1940s radio programs at night when insomnia keeps me awake. I have hundreds of them in MP3 on CDs, but my trusty old Walkman disk player died recently.By reading through most of them and copying certain how-to instructions from the answers, I got my unit up and running just fine with an initial load of 40 half-hour radio programs. Using the player is easy, and the audio sounds fine and plenty loud in my over-the-ears headset (can't stand earbuds).
The navigation is a little weird but I've only had it for a day. I'll get used to it. I will never figure out why there is an eBook folder. Silly with such a small screen. But I do love the size of this. Much lighter than the iPod. I have the armband made for this and I barely know its there. Sound quality is good. I really can't tell any difference between the iPod and this one. All the album art didn't transfer but I finally figured out to use Media Monkey. Still working on that but having fun with it.
